[Bucilla felt gingerbread house kit shown in photo, just so you can see how totally insane you can get with a felt gingerbread house!]

Kids will love making a gingerbread house that they can use year after year. It makes a great classroom project or a great craft for the boredom blues. The decorating ideas are endless with this gingerbread house.

Craft Difficulty Rating: Average

You Will Need:

  • Mrs. Field’s cookie box (or any other cardboard box shaped like a house)
  • Brown felt sheet
  • Scrap pieces of felt, assorted colors
  • Fabric glue
  • Scissors

  1. Cover the box with brown felt by gluing it down.
  2. Use white felt pieces to make “icing” for the house. You can cut the felt into a pattern if you wish.
  3. Use various scrap pieces to create candy shapes. I used gumdrops, mints, peppermint sticks, and gumdrops on my house as an example. Glue the pieces in place.
  4. Let it dry and there you have a great gingerbread house made from felt.
  5. Variation: To turn this craft into a playset, don’t glue the candy pieces down. Let kids recreate multiple houses by rearranging the candy pieces or adding new ones. It works just like a felt board.
